Lisbon to the surf without a car: plan the whole journey

A coastal rail line is useful. Your lesson still needs an exact destination and a current timetable.

Choose the provider before the train

Find a lesson that matches your ability and ask for its meeting point. A broad area name can cover more than one practical route. Confirm whether equipment is collected at a shop or at the beach and whether the location can move.

Use current service information

The Cascais rail corridor runs from Cais do Sodré toward Oeiras, Carcavelos and Cascais. Check CP for the service on your date and for works or replacement transport. Do not assume the published standard journey will operate unchanged.

Allow for the parts between stations

Include the walk, check-in, changing time and any equipment collection in your plan. Ask about board transport if travelling with your own equipment. If a connection is uncertain, choose an earlier departure rather than making a lesson depend on a perfect transfer.

Make the return comfortable

Keep a dry layer and the return details accessible. Avoid carrying wet equipment through a full city itinerary unless you have somewhere suitable to store it. Decide whether this is a surf day or a sightseeing day with a lesson attached; trying to maximise both can make neither enjoyable.
